If you applied for health insurance through WellPoint/Anthem Blue Cross before March 10, 2010, you could get benefits from a class action settlement.
A settlement has been reached with Anthem Blue Cross of California, Anthem Blue Cross Life and Health Insurance Company, The WellPoint Companies, Inc., WellPoint California Services, Inc. and WellPoint Behavioral Health, Inc. (together called “WellPoint / Anthem Blue Cross” or the “Defendants”) regarding the potential accessibility of personal and financial information contained on individual health insurance applications.
The settlement offers credit monitoring, identity theft insurance, additional time to make a claim for identity theft reimbursement, cash reimbursement for identity theft losses and out-of-pocket expenses that are more likely than not the result of the alleged disclosure, enhanced security measures, and donations to local and national non-profit entities.
The Court did not decide in favor of Plaintiffs or the Defendants. Instead, both sides agreed to settle this case to avoid the cost and risk of trial. The settlement does not mean that any law was broken or that WellPoint / Anthem Blue Cross did anything wrong. WellPoint / Anthem Blue Cross denies all legal claims in this case. The Class Representative and their lawyers think the settlement is best for all Class Members.
